The long-awaited launch of the Nexus One for Vodafone commences today, but the stock depletion we reported on not too long ago is now a non-issue, seemingly: you can order the Nexus One as readily as you could from Google themselves. A likely scenario, here, is that Vodafone initially ordered a shipment of devices specifically for preordering, and received another shipment that would be available in time for today’s release.

That or someone went “Holy crap! We have no phones!” and frantically placed a rush order. Either way, be sure to head over to Vodafone’s site to claim your Nexus One now before the stock is gobbled up again. Thanks to AndroidCommunity for the spotting.

Now here’s a turnaround I never expected. According to a recent results filing, Motorola is working its way back into solvency and is turning a profit and shipping devices like crazy. The company took a slight loss in mobile sales – about $192 million – but that’s far lower than $550 million last year.

In truth, the company has only three phones on the market – the Cliq, the Droid, and the Devour. However, it’s abundantly clear that their decision to go all Android all the time was a great one and that the marketing Verizon has pushed behind the Droid has really brought the company back to life. I, for one, am glad. Motorola hitched their wagon to the RAZR for far too long and almost lost their shirt in the process. The fact that they’re able to push out a monster release and are currently popular is an amazing feat.

Ally has a lovely QWERTYI know I’m not alone in my lust for decent phones with QWERTY keypads.

While I’ve been thoroughly enjoying the company of my touch-screen-only HTC Hero for 7 months now, I must admit that I am looking at other (more well endowed) phones while Hero’s back is turned.

But you know what? She’s ok with that. I guess that’s why we work so well together… even though I dream of the days where I could type without looking at the keyboard.

…and along comes Ally…

She has a full QWERTY, y’know. I like that in a phone, but I need something more than just a QWERTY if I am to consider acting on this whimsy.

Did you say Snapdragon? Oh my. I like those. A friend of mine is currently with a snapdragon-powered thing called Desire, and he says it’s a whole new experience.

Of course, the Snapdragon is just the beginning: Ally also has a 480×800 AMOLED, a 5MP camera, and 720p video, all running on top of Android 2.1. While those specs are a bit girl-next-door these days, I think I’d like to meet this Ally. Wouldn’t you?

I hear she’s changed her name twice already: she used to be called “Aloha”, and before that she was just “LU2300″. She’s an elusive type, y’see.

In fact, I’ve just told you everything I know. But rest assured, I’ll pass on any details as I find them. I’m sure we’ll become the best of friends.

A new Motorola smartphone, the MB810, just received its certification from the Wi-Fi Alliance for wireless standard 802.11 b/g/n. And with the announcement, speculation has run rampant that this very well could be the Motorola Shadow, a device that made its rounds in the news earlier this year as a proclaimed Droid 2 or even Nexus Two. And speculation as it may be, all signs are pointing to this being the case.

Just a little bit of what you might expect from the Shadow:

  • Android 2.2
  • 4.3-in capacitive touchscreen
  • 8MP camera
  • QWERTY slide-out keyboard

The Shadow will most likely be a GSM device, which makes sense considering Motorola hasn’t had a recent success like the Droid outside of Verizon, and spreading the love around a bit would sure help out in their accounting department. Most reports see this one dropping sometime during Q2 of this year on AT&T, so if this is the case expect to hear a lot more very soon.
